SAD JONAH words & music copyright G. Seal 1972
Both a true story and an allegory on 'tripping', this song was published by Mike O'Rourke in 'The Living Daylights' of the Nation Review, around 1973.
G Am7 G
The tide is flowing down the sand
Am7 G
And ebbing from the shore
Am7 G
Sad Jonah is going from the land
F G F C G Am7 G
Unto the sea once more
He flies on weather-beaten wings
And wanders with the waves
Blown on by ever-beating winds
Over silent sailors’ graves
Drowned in the well of deepest night
Sad Jonah dreams and drifts
Lost in the spell of never-ending flight
Until the night wind shifts
The morning tide creeps back to land
As the dreaming fades and ends
Sad Jonah weeps upon the sand
F G F C G Am7
For he knows he must go again - and again and again
